Society Secretary Seeks Recruits Among The Young People of Seaton Cumbria
The first Thursday in March was National Book Day and to celebrate
this Seaton Infants Schoolnear Workington had a 'Book Week'. They
had local authors and others to spend a day with the 200 or so
children (all aged 7 and under). This was not to be considered
as complete without reference to one of the most famous 'Lakes'
authors of modern times - Alfred Wainwright. Of course it helped
that Head Teacher, Lesley Grace, is also a keen fell walker.
So on Friday March 5th Peter Linney, our secretary made the journey
to Seaton to talk to the children of this delightful school. It
was doubly exciting as the children were all in a costume of their
choice on this particular day.
They listened quietly and attentively whilst Peter gave a short
audio visual presentation of the life and work of AW and then small
groups of the older children came to the beautiful new library
to examine several of AW's books and maps of the Lake District.
Their questions and comments showed a high level of understanding
and interest and Peter found it to be a most enjoyable experience.
Perhaps amongst this enthusiastic group of children are future
members.
Thank you Seaton Infants school for the opportunity to talk about
our inspiration.
