A walking stick donated to the Wainwright Society by neighbours of Betty Wainwright raised £501.50 in a 'blind auction' run by the Society. The successful bidder has asked to remain anonymous.
Betty Wainwright said that the stick was owned by AW, he having been given it by a stick maker from Longsleddale. Apparently he never actually used it because “he was afraid that if he fell on it he would injure or even kill himself”.
The money raised from the auction will be donated to Workington Life Boat with the winning bidders agreement.
