below is a statement by the the organisers of Lake District Tree of Light
Christmas is a time for celebration and a time to give. A time when we celebrate the lives of our loved ones both present and past. A time when we rekindle memories of that occasion such as a wedding, honeymoon, birth or anniversary.
A donation to The Lake District Tree of Light in Keswick provides an opportunity to celebrate that life or occasion and at the same time to support worthy causes and those less fortunate than themselves.
Organised by the Rotary Club of Keswick, the tree is a magnificent beech tree situated next to the Cenotaph in the centre of Keswick, the ‘heartbeat’ of the Lake District. The tree will be illuminated with over 5000 new LED lights this Christmas from the 18th November 2011 until the 5th January 2012. The lights have been generously provided through sponsorship by local businesses.
All proceeds from the tree will go to the many charities and local good causes which the Rotary Club of Keswick supports. This year Help4Heroes will be the main beneficiary.
The tree will be lit on 18th November at the start of the Keswick Christmas Lights Event, a popular local event and will be followed by a celebratory procession of local schoolchildren playing drums, singing and carrying torches to symbolise The Lake District Tree of Light. The procession is being organised by New Arts North and the music has been written especially for the occasion.
For every £10.00 donation made, the donor will have the opportunity of writing a short personal message which will appear in a Book of Celebration on the website.
The name being celebrated or remembered will also be displayed in the local newspaper and on a notice board at the foot of the tree.
The donor will also receive an attractive festive card in acknowledgement and appreciation of their generosity.
Many of us hold fond memories of the Lake District so what better way to celebrate that memory than to donate to The Lake District Tree of Light.
