Path Closures September 2012

Raven Crag
United Utilities have emailed the Society with the following information about access problems on Raven Crag which may have put the summit out of bounds for the time being.

'Our catchment manager for the area has advised that the section of Ravencrag path has been closed due to wind blown trees. However this is on our work programme for the coming Autumn/Winter.

The section affected is a permissive path by United Utilities the landowner. We have now put up signs on the public footpath which links to it from the dam area so that visitors are warned that they may not be able to complete a walk.'

United Utilities have promised to keep the Society updated and further information will be posted here as and when it is available.

The Coast to Coast Walk
A footbridge at the start of the walk at St Bees has been washed away in recent heavy rains. A Countryside Ranger with Cumbria County Council has advised the following:

'You may be aware that the main footbridge over Rottington Beck in St Bees has been washed out in last weeks heavy rain. With kind permission of the Seacote Caravan Park we have diverted walkers through the site so they can still walk over St Bees Head and onwards. (See map for details)

We will be working as quick as we can to reinstate the footbridge in liaison with Copeland Borough Council and the RSPB who own the land.'

Further information will be posted here as and when the Society is advised.
