101 Viewpoints and Walks - by Michael Mumford
ISBN: 9780953861330.
Published by Landscape
Guides Ltd. £14 for the CD or £44 for the
hardback. Information on the E-book can be
found at www.landscape-guides.co.uk and on the hardback book at
www.blurb.com/books/2025299.
Michael Mumford and his team have
endeavoured to bring attention to AW’s
latent interest in Snowdonia (his first visit
was at the age of seventy-two) and his
subsequent drawings in Welsh Mountain
Drawings, published by Westmorland
Gazette in 1981.
They have meticulously found the locations in
Snowdonia visited by AW to produce the drawings
for his book. This was not always easy to do: as the
book explains, in many cases the actions of nature
or man have hidden either the location or the view.
The book is available in two formats, a CD
‘E-book’ and a hardback book (which includes
an interactive CD). A clear and comprehensive
explanation is given of what will be found on the
individual pages relating to Wainwright’s viewpoints,
each of which is depicted by a colour photograph
alongside AW’s sketch. The CDs are interactive,
giving directions to enable the reader to find the
viewpoints and other useful information and
related websites.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the E-book and will use
it to find those lonely places visited by the great man.
