The Wainwright Society and The Lake District Tourism and Conservation Partnership PROJECT: HLF Thorneythwaite Fell Footpath METHODS OF FUNDRAISING: Donation through new membership as a result of the 'Great Lakeland Challenge' RAISED TO DATE: £570 The Wainwright Society is an Associate Member of The Lake District Tourism and Conservation Partnership and has been busy raising funds to help support conservation projects within Cumbria. The Wainwright Society marked this 50th anniversary of the publications by recording the ascent of all 214 fells in the Pictorial Guides and those in the Outlying Fells in one week between the 14th and 21st of May. Registration was free to members and £10 for non members. Three pounds of each registration fee have been donated to The Tourism and Conservation Partnership which organises footpath repair and other environmental projects within Cumbria. THORNEYTHWAITE FELL
This footpath runs up onto Glaramara from the Borrowdale valley. There are a few sections, generally on the steeper slopes, where the surface has washed away causing widening of the footpath. These sections need careful stone pitching to prevent the further spread of erosion. Heritage Lottery Upland Footpath Repair is a joint venture between The National Trust, The Lake District National Park Authority and English Nature. Every £1 raised to support these footpaths will draw down an extra £2 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
