Walked
it in 1998 & 2006, have done other "official" trails
and the C2C is better than most. |

Great
walk - can't wait to finish it! |

I
suspect the only reason stopping the Coast-to-Coast walk from
becoming a National Trail is that (I believe) there are a few
stretches on permissive paths rather than genuine public footpaths.
Also there is the problem of the sections on roads between Richmond
and Ingleby Cross. If these issues are resolved then there really
is no reason for it not being adopted as a National Trail...
... except possibly the "Not
Invented Here" syndrome which the Countryside Agency may be suffering
from! |

I
walked the coast to coast 7 years ago. It was one of the hardest
things I had ever done. It was also one of the best things I
have ever done. Brilliant. |

wonderful route that should have official recognition. |

I
have just completed C2C which has been an ambition for many years.
I would thoroughly endorse any action to have it recognised as
a national trail. |

This
is one of the best long distance paths anywhere, it should be
recognised as such. |

The
book was a gem, the walk was even more superb. My copy of the
book was from 1980, published by the Westmorland Gazette, still
in good condition unlike myself. |

The
Coast to Coast walk is equal to and indeed surpasses many of those
long distance walks currently recognised in the UK - from perspectives
of history, scenery and use. It should attract equal status. |

The
route should be recognised to allow some investment to maintain
it as it should be a unique experience. |

I
did this walk (at 21) with my 16 year old sister last summer.
It was an amazing experience neither of us will ever forget. This walk
should have the support it deserves in order to conserve it as best
as possible for future generations. |

The
Coast To Coast is one of the best mid range walks for both young
and old, it should be officially recognised as a National Trail
Walk , the health and well being is so important in todays life
style, this will encourage people to take part in the challenge and
at the same time bring some revenue to the countryside. |

I
have always planned to walk the coast to coast and never got round
to it, but having visited the area that the walk goes through many
times I can never understand why National trail status hasn't been
given to it. The scenery is outstanding from one end to the other and
it is worth 2 weeks walking of anybodies time. It will also bring much
needed revenue to villages where people are leaving in droves to find
better employment. |

1.
Wainwright never intended it to be a specifc route - only a suggestion
as to how to find your own route - yet it has become de-facto
a popular route to be followed exactly by visitors from all over
the world!
2. It is sad that YHA are closing Kirkby Steven Youth Hostel just
at a time when this popular trail is up for promotion. Why? |

Something
as beautiful as the Coast to Coast should have all the support
it needs, it's surely as important as the Pennine Way (no slur
on the P. W. ) |

Please give the Coast to Coast Walk National Trail Status. Of all
the long distance walks I have done this is the best and merits the
status of National Trail.

Did
this walk with my brother and it was the best 10 days walking
we have ever done, hopefully with a bit more recognition 1 or 2 of
the way marks could be improved or relaced. |

The
C2C walk is becoming more popular and is long overdue for National
Trail status. I know permissive paths form part of the route
but this can be overcome. I did the walk this summer and will do it
again and again. |

If
it does get National Trail status, I hope the powers that be
build a footbridge across the A19. If you want to encourage tourists
from all over the world to do this walk, having to cross a busy
main road is not exactly enticing. |

I
have just completed a two part crossing of the C2C with members
of my family and enjoyed it immensely. I agree with you entirely,
it should definitely be included in the family of National Trails. |
