A COAST TO COAST WALK

striding edge

Coast to Coast Campaign

We, the Undersigned, endorse the following petition:

Give "A Coast to Coast Walk" National Trail status
Target: Natural England
Sponsor: The Wainwright Society

  Name   County/State  Country Comments
0200 Peter Boardman Cheshire UK
Walked it in 1998 & 2006, have done other "official" trails and the C2C is better than most.
0199 Kevin Smith Essex UK
Great walk - can't wait to finish it!
0198 John Crook Dorset UK
I suspect the only reason stopping the Coast-to-Coast walk from becoming a National Trail is that (I believe) there are a few stretches on permissive paths rather than genuine public footpaths. Also there is the problem of the sections on roads between Richmond and Ingleby Cross. If these issues are resolved then there really is no reason for it not being adopted as a National Trail... ... except possibly the "Not Invented Here" syndrome which the Countryside Agency may be suffering from!
0197 John & Ann Baldry Shropshire UK
We did the C to C in June this year - the best trip we have undertaken.
0196 Kathleen Jackson Yorkshire UK
I walked the coast to coast 7 years ago. It was one of the hardest things I had ever done. It was also one of the best things I have ever done. Brilliant.
0195 Geoffrey Greenwood Lancashire UK
0194 Cameron McNeish Scotland UK
A wonderful route that should have official recognition.
0193 Jean Willaimson Tyne & Wear UK
0192 Stu Darby Oxfordshire UK
0191 Martyn Tanner Hampshire UK
I have just completed C2C which has been an ambition for many years. I would thoroughly endorse any action to have it recognised as a national trail.
0190 Derek Snaith Lancashire UK
This is one of the best long distance paths anywhere, it should be recognised as such.
0189 George Depledge Derbyshire UK
The book was a gem, the walk was even more superb. My copy of the book was from 1980, published by the Westmorland Gazette, still in good condition unlike myself.
0188 Alan Greenwood West Yorkshire UK
0187 Sheila Bullas Herts UK
The Coast to Coast walk is equal to and indeed surpasses many of those long distance walks currently recognised in the UK - from perspectives of history, scenery and use. It should attract equal status.
0186 Christopher H Hardy Northants UK
0185 William John Smith Lancashire UK
The route should be recognised to allow some investment to maintain it as it should be a unique experience.
0184 Jeanette Williams Staffs UK
0183 Emma Barrett Cornwall UK
I did this walk (at 21) with my 16 year old sister last summer. It was an amazing experience neither of us will ever forget. This walk should have the support it deserves in order to conserve it as best as possible for future generations.
0182 Martin Brocklehurst West Yorkshire UK
The Coast To Coast is one of the best mid range walks for both young and old, it should be officially recognised as a National Trail Walk , the health and well being is so important in todays life style, this will encourage people to take part in the challenge and at the same time bring some revenue to the countryside.
0181 Nick Collard North Yorkshire UK
0180 Philip Wright Merseyside UK
0179 Stephen Murray Cumbria UK
0178 Peter Wilson Warks UK
I have always planned to walk the coast to coast and never got round to it, but having visited the area that the walk goes through many times I can never understand why National trail status hasn't been given to it. The scenery is outstanding from one end to the other and it is worth 2 weeks walking of anybodies time. It will also bring much needed revenue to villages where people are leaving in droves to find better employment.
0177 Margaret Glover North Yorkshire UK
0176 Tony Arkle North'd UK
0175 Derek Cockell Suffolk UK
The Coast to Coast walk deserves to be recognised as a National Trail.
0174 Donald Holliday Cumbria UK
1. Wainwright never intended it to be a specifc route - only a suggestion as to how to find your own route - yet it has become de-facto a popular route to be followed exactly by visitors from all over the world!
2. It is sad that YHA are closing Kirkby Steven Youth Hostel just at a time when this popular trail is up for promotion. Why?
0173 Toby Suffolk UK
Please make the Coast to Coast a National trail.
0172 Mal Johnson Cleveland UK
Why is this not a national trail already? Any other country would have made this an official trail years ago.
0171 Stuart Richards Cumbria UK
0170 C.Pearson Worcs UK
0169 Spencer Dowling Notts UK
The C2C is the best long distance walk in the country.
0168 P.S. Yorkshire UK
Something as beautiful as the Coast to Coast should have all the support it needs, it's surely as important as the Pennine Way (no slur on the P. W. )
0167 Peter Donovan West Yorkshire UK

Please give the Coast to Coast Walk National Trail Status. Of all the long distance walks I have done this is the best and merits the status of National Trail.

0166 Pete Seaman North Yorkshire UK Move the C-TO-C to the inner city, it will be flooded with grants!!
0165 Ronald Landry Texas USA
0164 Joanne Monson Minnesota USA
0163 Pat Lawson Cumbria UK
Such an important and beautiful walk should not be second best.
0162 R Gardiner Lancashire UK
Did this walk with my brother and it was the best 10 days walking we have ever done, hopefully with a bit more recognition 1 or 2 of the way marks could be improved or relaced.
0161 Ernie Roper South Yorkshire UK
The C2C walk is becoming more popular and is long overdue for National Trail status. I know permissive paths form part of the route but this can be overcome. I did the walk this summer and will do it again and again.
0160 Mark S Bradshaw Cleveland UK
If it does get National Trail status, I hope the powers that be build a footbridge across the A19. If you want to encourage tourists from all over the world to do this walk, having to cross a busy main road is not exactly enticing.
0159 John Hawkins Washington USA
0158 Alan Goodman Greater Manchester UK
0157 Heather Mann Worcs UK
I walked the C to C three years ago with a friend. It was a challange, but great fun and I am amazed it is still not recognised as a National Path.
0156 Philip Powell Co. Durham UK
As the most beautiful trail in this country, it should most definitely be a National Trail.
0155 John D Wooller West Yorkshire UK
I have just completed a two part crossing of the C2C with members of my family and enjoyed it immensely. I agree with you entirely, it should definitely be included in the family of National Trails.
