A COAST TO COAST WALK

striding edge

Coast to Coast Campaign

We, the Undersigned, endorse the following petition:

Give "A Coast to Coast Walk" National Trail status
Target: Natural England
Sponsor: The Wainwright Society

  Name   County/State  Country Comments
0250 Anthony Meehan Middlesex UK
I completed the C-2-C this year and along with many of my fellow walkers on the trail we could not understand why the route is not recognised as a National Trail. There are many people relying on this long distance path for their living - all those B&Bs, pubs etc would really benefit for the enhanced profile that a National Trail status would give the route.
0249 Geoff Moores Devon UK
Long overdue. When I did the C2C it was an experience like the Canterbury Tales! Kept meeting the walkers who started on the same day and we shared experiences at the end-quite life changing and unique. Distinct from the established National Trails I have done. Good luck.

If any walk should be a National Trail it is the C to C. Because: It is achievable by a moderately fit person. It shows England at it's best both through the magnificent scenery and the friendliness of the people met along the way.

This is a walk i would have loved to do. But owing to having a stroke, unfortunately that will never happen. How I envy those who have done such a beautiful walk. It should be recognised, as it is one of our British treasures.

As a two time C2C walker (once with Heather) I am delighted to see that my pre-2006 AGM suggestion to the Committee about the Path's elevation to that of a National Trail is now bearing fruit.

This walk is head and shoulders above many I have walked. How on earth it will not be cosidered as a National Trail is beyond me.
0237 Nicole Roberts Alrington, VA USA
0236 Nigel Holden West Yorkshire UK
Without doubt the finest long distance walk in the country, this absolutely should be a recognised National Trail. It is a National Treasure.

I understand that the C2C is the second most popular long distance walk in the WORLD; so it must surely deserve recognition as a National Trail. I wonder, though, what AW would have thought?

We have enjoyed the Pembrokeshire Coast Path for nearly 40 yrs. The Coast-to-coast is in that category at least. I support the Campaign.

Any walk as popular as the coast to coast should be regarded as a national trail. This one has the added merint of crossing the country from one side to the other as indicated by its name, what higher claim could it have to being regarded as a national trail.
0228 John E. Baker Cumbria UK
A really great walk that deserves full recognition.
0227 Colin Foreman Suffolk UK
I did the Coast-to-Coast as a 16 year old in 1982, and have been planning to do again for the last 20 years!
0226 Andy Littleton Tyne & Wear UK
0225 Chris Pagan East Sussex UK
This is the finest long distance walk in the country.
0224 Leon Alexis Moody North Yorkshire UK
I did the C2C walk twice as a child and really enjoyed it.
0223 Pauline Moody North Yorkshire UK
The Coast to Coast Walk is simply the finest walk in Britain.
0222 Ray Moody North Yorkshire UK
I believe that the Coast to Coast Walk is the finest walk in England and has brought much economic development to isolated country areas and attracted much foreign currency to the country.

0220 Andy Pawlicki Cheshire UK
Keep up the good work!
0219 Nicola Webster Nottingham UK
I did the coast to coast when I was 13 years old and can't wait to do it again in the near future - make it a National Trail please!
0218 Richard McCarthy Kent UK
The C2C walk is of national importance and should be recognised as such.
0217 M Spires Co.Durham UK
It's a superb walk, and have done it 3 times and next year (2007) I'm planning to do again (last walk was 1991). I'm concerned a bit about it's popularity and the National Trail status. But times are changing, though I don't think Wainwright would not of been too happy about it. Also it has turned out to be a money spinner. If it helps the local econom, that's all the better.

With a fellow member, both of whom have completed all 214 Lakeland peaks, I hope to complete this trail next year, and so fully support the bid for official trail status.
0213 Stuart Macpherson Tyne and Wear UK
Done the walk each year 1990 to 1996 - once with my children aged 10 and 11 and wife - a little older. It shows Britain at its best. Stayed at some great B&Bs on route. Should it be made an official route? - well of course - even if permissible routes are accepted. Pure bliss of a walk.
0212 John Hampton Shropshire UK

Best walk I have ever done. Much better than the Pennine Way
0208 K L Malone South Yorkshire UK
This is one of the best, iconic and beautiful walks in Britain. It should be preserved for all people.
0207 Charlie Withall South Yorkshire UK
The walk remains one of our best holidays.

0205 Frank Squibb Cornwall UK
A wonderful walk. I'm only amazed that it hasn't already been recognised as a National Trail, for it certainly deserves to be.
0204 Roger Sivers Iowa USA
I walked the C2C in August 2006 and found it to be a very rewarding, scenic and delightful walk. It deserves to be a National Trail.
0203 Mr James McBride Cumbria UK
0202 Janet Powson Cleveland UK
0201 Andrew Stichbury Essex UK
The best walk of all, one of the best in the world, cannot be beaten for variety. Should be the top national trail. Can be done in two weeks so fits into most peoples holiday schedules.
