I saw the article in The Independent on Sunday, 21/01/07, and had no idea that the path did not have national status. More power to your elbow!! As a long distance walker i fully appreciate the co-ordinated signage that this would bring.
0390 Tom Hulse Queensland AUS
Walked the Coast to Coast 12 Sept to 4 October 2006 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I support your efforts; best wishes for a satisfactory outcome.

This walk is amazing is so many ways and it is a challenge I have set myself. It encompasses so much that is fabulous about Britain and I cannot wait to embark on my journey. Given that it has been ranked #2 in the WORLD indicates it's immense popularity and it is only fitting that it should be recognized and supported as such within it's own borders by it's own Government and agencies.
0388 Mrs Chris Elliot Kent UK
My first long distance walk in the 1980's and quite the best. It certainly needs recognition.
0387 Dr Yvonne Sougnez Cumbria UK
I have posted a letter today to alert you to planning approval given to extend quarrying on St Bees Head.
0386 Vicki Chuter Cumbria UK
The Coast to Coast walk gives a fantastic cross-section of the whole of Northern England. It is by far my favourite of the trails I have walked in the UK.
0385 Paul Jackson Derbyshire UK
I was am asked why do people like myself like to walk up and down mountains?. My answer to this every time is "BECAUSE THEY ARE THERE". And you cant beat the lakes for the views at the top and the friendly residents.

They didn't name the Wainwright bar in Robin Hood's bay for Nothing!
0379 Paul Johnson Lancashire UK
Wainwright deserves it. His books are wonderful. Nothing captures the walks like them. they are timeless and deserve honouring.
0378 Stef Clarke Leics UK
The choice-box for "Country" above doesn't list my country. I'm from ENGLAND. I'm sure that AW would have been just as disgruntled about this.
0377 Jenny Spiller West Midlands UK
He didn't want a memorial, but this would be a worthwhile tribute to a man whose deep appreciation of the landscape was so beautifully recorded in his series of guide books. Today would have been his 100th birthday.
0376 Duncan MacLeod Aberdeen UK
It would have been nice if the powers that be designated the C2C a National Trail on the centenary of AW's birth, but I don't suppose politicians have that much foresight these days.
0375 Alexis Badger London UK
0374 John Tickle Cheshire UK
I have walked the C2C in 1997 and found amazing absolutly breathtaking and a real life moment helped make me the person i am today i think it should be made an official route so as to be protected for many gennerations to come to enjoy.
0373 Monika Alberta CAN
After reading about and looking at pictures of the trail, it would be shame if it didnt get the recognition it deserves!

0369 Ben Wilson Ontario CAN
0368 Brian Bendall Devon UK
Having walked "the Coast to Coast" I believe this should be given the same status as other long distance routes.
0367 Robert Watts Berkshire UK
I have not walked it as yet but am planning the trip now for June.
0366 Roger and Ann Hiley Cumbria UK
A fine trail deserving of national recognition as more and more people are enjoying it each year. Let's hope the investment which should follow will protect it properly before it is spoilt.
0365 Steve Mayfield Nottingham UK
Why not!
0364 Colin Wilkinson Durham UK
Hope to walk it soon !!!!
0363 Cameron McNeish Inverness-shire UK
0362 Jane & Tim Hodgson Merseyside UK
A smashing walk. Well deserving of national status.
0361 Sean Hazlewood Lancashire UK
I have walked in the lake district for the last 25 years and found the Wainwright books a godsend, and it was these books that got me hooked on walking and visiting the area.
I have successfully walked a number of the main ridges and peaks within the national park during that time. I am there each weekend, I hope you succeed in achieving the recognistion of the coast to coast walk. I will try this soon with a good friend.
0360 Sheila Bullas Herts UK
This should be a national trail because of its popularity (numbers walking it), scenic merit (some of the finest scenery in England) and its completeness (a definite beginning, middle and end).
0359 William Dommett Herts UK
Completed in May 1998 with my wife and another couple. Our best walk ever.
