An excellent walk that should be recognised as a National Trail.

I did the Coast to Coast Walk the year before Wainwright died. My regret is that I did not write to him just after I had completed the walk to tell him how much I appreciated the walk, the scenery and my own achievement. This was my first continuous long distance walk, I had done others, but over a long period of time, I did it inside the 14 days recommended by Wainwright. It must be made into an official walk as it probably encouraged many people like myself to do other long distance walks.

This would be a fitting tribute to Alfred Wainwright.

Having done the Coast to Coast in 1999, I feel very strongly that it should be made into a National Trail. I think this status would attract more visitors and aid the economies of the communities the walk passes through.

Completed Coast to Coast 3 years ago and met up with walkers from USA, Australia, Holland and Belgium, as well as many parts of UK - it is already a national treasure and institution and should be officially recognised.

The more National Trails the better!

About time too. In my opinion the Coast to Coast should be Britain's premier National Trail.

I did this walk in 1992 and having done many others regard it as Britain's finest, it should be a National Trail.

Please recognise the Coast to Coast walk as a National Trail.

Having walked C to C in 1979ish, walked bits very recently and now living a few miles from the beloved Danby Wiske, I support making Wainwright's imaginative walk a National Trail. It's a damn sight better than some that are!

No other long distance walk goes through such a wide variety of landscape.

The Coast to Coast has now become part of the British natural and cultural heritage, and deserves to be recognised by being accorded the status of a National Trail.

Please make all efforts to make the Coast to Coast Walk a National Trail.

It sure is about time this was a recognised NATIONAL ROUTE.

An excellent proposal, especially with the government's obsession with national fitness. The Minister for Fitness could even gain publicity for the proposal as well as her own cause by completing the walk!
