50 Best Walks

The Wainwright Society proposes to produce a book of the 50 Best Walks in Lakeland. The submission of these walks is limited to members of the Society and is free.  Others may of course take part by joining the Society at the cost of £10 for the current calendar year, just started.  Members are asked to submit details of their ‘best walk’ giving:

• A full written description in not more than 500 words, giving a sense of the walk as well as clear instructions as to the route.
• A couple of (if possible, digital) photographs showing features of the walk.
• A portrait of the member submitting the entry.

Entries should be located within the area covered by the seven Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells and The Outlying Fells of Lakleland.  They should be addressed to The Wainwright Society, c/o Kendal Museum, Station Road, Kendal, Cumbria LA9 6BT, marking the back of the envelope ’50 Best Walks’

We already have 23 walks registered but would like more.  A full list of those submitted thus far is listed below.

It is hoped that we can start editing the entries into book format later in the year and so the closing date will be the end of September with the objective of publishing the book in the early months of 2008.
