An Evening with Alfred Wainwright

John BurlandA dramatic presentation of the life and works of AW was presented by Wainwright Society Press & Publicity Officer John Burland at the Wildman Theatre at Ilkley Playhouse as part of the Ilkley Literature festival on Thursday 15 October at 7.30 pm.

A capacity audience of approximately 130 people attended this event. John took the audience on a journey through AW's life from his humble upbringing in Blackburn through his life-changing visit to the Lake District in 1930 and then his eventual move to Kendal in 1940 and the fifteen years spent writing the Pictorial Guides between 1952 and 1967.

John will also be performing this presentation at: the Blencathra Centre near Threlkeld on Friday 19th February 2010 at 1930; to the National Trust Yorkshire meeting at the Ian Clough Hall at Baildon on Saturday 27th February at 14.30;  the Swaledale Outdoor Club on Friday 19th March at 7.30 pm; the Brindle Historical Society (near Blackburn) on Monday 22nd March at 19.30 (tel: 01254 854298); the Kendal Civic Society on Monday 26th April at 1930 and at the Haltwhistle Walking Festival on Saturday 24th April at 6 p.m.
