NB the Poetry Competition has now closed and an anthology has been published - further details of this can be found by clicking here
The Society is running a Poetry Competition for members only. ‘Poems’ can be anything you want, for example; a sonnet; a limerick; free verse; 2 lines; Ancient Mariner length; a parody; an Ode; an Elegy. But, it must cover a subject relating to the Society in some way, for example Fells, The Lakes or other AW haunts, environment, walking/ climbing or anything else which has a Wainwright Society connection. It can be serious or fun or a mixture.
Entries, which must be original pieces of work and written entirely by the member, should be typed, preferably as a ‘Word document’ and submitted by email to poetrycompetition@wainwright.org.uk. . PLEASE PUT ‘POETRY’ in the subject line. They MUST be accompanied by your Name, Membership number and a contact telephone number for any queries. Multiple entries will be accepted, but should be submitted within the same emailed document, each entry clearly identified as a separate piece (i.e. not a continuation of the previous item).
Junior entries. If anyone in your immediate family is under the age of 16 at December 31st 2010 and wishes to enter, they will be very welcome; you must clearly identify the entrant’s age and relationship to the member when you send in this form of entry. These will be judged as a separate category.
Publication. We may wish to publish entries in future Footsteps issues and possibly create a Society Anthology for sale (or free) to members. (If sold any profits would go to our nominated 2011 charity). By entering the competition, permission will be deemed to have been given by you to The Society to use your entry in this way unless you specifically state otherwise. (Should you wish to retain copyright, with the above permission granted, then you should mark your entry appropriately).
Judging. An appropriate judging panel will be set up and will recommend the winning entry (ies). In all circumstances the Judges and Committee decision will be final and we will not be able to correspond about individual entries. This is primarily a bit of (semi-serious) fun so please don’t get worked up if you don’t win!
Fees and Prizes. There will be no entry fee. There will be a small but appropriate prize for the winning entry (and possibly to the runners up).
Closing Date and Announcement of Winner(s). Closing date for entries will be strictly 28th February 2011. Winners will be announced as soon as possible thereafter, in the e-bulletin and Footsteps.
Have fun.
