The 2008 Wainwright Memorial Lecture The sixth Wainwright Memorial Lecture given
The Wainwright Society is pleased to announce that this year’s memorial lecture will take place on Saturday 11th October at 6pm when the speaker will be Derry Brabbs, international photographer who worked with Wainwright on a number of books in the 1980’s including Fellwalking with Wainwright, Wainwright on the Pennine Way, Wainwright’s Favourite Lakeland Mountains, and Wainwright in the Valleys of Lakeland. In 2005 Derry produced his own book In The Footprints of Wainwright telling the story of his work with AW.
In recent years, Derry Brabbs has established a great reputation as an accomplished speaker whose presentations are a visual delight. His audiences are captivated by a combination of outstanding photography and informative narrative, delivered in a relaxed, humorous style. A revised version of Fellwalking with Wainwright was published by Francis Lincoln in the Autumn of 2006 and, along with its 2005 predecessor, In the Footprints of Wainwright, tells of Derry’s association with one of England’s more enigmatic literary figures from the latter decades of the 20th century. Now that a new generation of Wainwright aficionados are roaming the Lake District, Derry took part in 2007 in the filming of the second TV series of Wainwright Walks, (BBC4 & BBC2), despite his protesting knee ligaments during the ascents of the Lake District mountains! Derry’s talk will last approximately an hour and will be illustrated by around 100 colour slides, mainly of scenes of the Lake District. Tickets are selling fast, so book early! For booking information For further details contact the Society’s Press & Publicity Officer, John Burland on 07725434036 or by email at publicity@wainwright.org.uk |
