Winterreise - A Winter's Journey Coast to Coast
On the 19th January 2004 American tenor David Pisaro set off to perform Die Winterreise song cycle during the course of a 2 week hike across England, roughly following Wainwright's Coast to Coast path from St. Bees in Cumbria across the Pennines to Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire.

His itinerary will take him from performances in village halls, churches, special schools and public houses along the route. He will also perform in a bookshop and, in Keld in Swaledale, in a farmhouse parlour. He is arranging to have pianos moved to three of the 13 venues.

Die Winterreise song cycle (The Winter's Journey) was written in 1827 by Franz Schubert and traces the physical and emotional journey of a rejected lover traveling away from home across snow bound landscapes. As time passes he travels far and his mental state begins to collapse. Finally he comes to believe that happiness is but a dream from which he has awoken.

Even though AW doesn't get a mention on his website, one would hope that David may at least have heard of the devisor of his route.
