A short introduction to the appeal by Eric Robson
Cumbria and Wainwright are inextricably linked. That's a fact.
As you all know, I'm reluctant to speculate about what AW felt about things like statues and memorials. But what I'm absolutely certain about is that Wainwright would have been moved to tears by the plight of so many parts of his adopted county following the disastrous floods in November.
Following from a thread which has arisen on the Society Website Forum, the Society committee has decided to have a special fundraising effort to give something back to the place that was at the heart of Wainwright's work.
If you'd like to donate - no matter how small a sum, please send it to:
Cumbria Flood Appeal,
The Wainwright Society,
Cumbria LA9 6BT
Cheques payable to the Wainwright Society. Alternatively, payments can be made directly into the Society’s bank account (sort code 20-45-28, account no 50908525) with the words ‘Flood Appeal’ in the reference field.
We're going to wait to see where the money you donate can be best spent but it will definitely be used to help relieve some of the effects of the floods.
Thank you in anticipation and we'll keep you fully in touch with where the money is spent and the benefits it brings
