Fix The Fells on Martcrag Moor

One of our members, Ian Prater, is a Fix the Fells volunteer and is hoping
that funds will be awarded for a project on Martcrag Moor above Langdale,
which is quite close to the Stake Pass project that was supported by the
Wainwright Society through the sales of the 2010 Society Calendar.

Bovril has set aside a fund of £100,000 which will be donated to the
National Trust to tackle a number of different projects. All around the
country different National Trust properties have put in bids for a share of
the fund, including High Wray Basecamp, for a project on Martcrag Moor above

The bid is a good example of a project that hasn't been a high enough
priority to be tackled as part of 'Fix the Fells' but that will only worsen
if left unchecked, and the problem with a lot of these paths over peat bog
is that they have a bad knock on effect on streams and lakes lower down as
well as the more obvious degrading of the upland landscape.

To vote for this project go to and click on
the 'Find a project' button.
Type 'Langdale' in the search box that says 'area or postcode'.
Zoom in a little on the Lake District and the Martcrag Moor project is the
shovel that appears nearest to the 'Lake District' text and is titled,
'South Lakes Upland Footpath Restoration'.
