Sales of Encounters with Wainwright have reached an important landmark, with profit passing £5000 – all of which go to Animal Rescue Cumbria, the charity that Alfred and Betty Wainwright supported passionately.

The book has also been shortlisted for Lakeland Book of the Year 2017, from a field of over 70 nominations.

This book (240 pages long, in full colour and with over 250 photographs – many not previously published), contains 120 stories of people who met or knew Alfred Wainwright. Together they provide much new information and provide the reader with an opportunity to consider Wainwright afresh in the light of first-hand experience. The book was compiled and edited by David Johnson, Editor of Footsteps (the magazine of The Wainwright Society).

Amanda said ‘Encounters with Wainwright is a wonderful book, brilliantly researched and produced by David. I'd recommend it to anyone, not just those interested in Wainwright. The trustees, staff, volunteers and, of course, all the animals in our care are extremely grateful to David and The Wainwright Society for donating the profits, and are delighted and honoured by this.’
