The Coast to Coast Challenge

Saturday 4th May - Saturday 25th May 2013

2013 was the 40th anniversary of the publication of A Coast to Coast Walk and we decided to use the Coast to Coast as our Challenge event. There were two main aims for the challenge.

The first was to walk the entire route as 48 separate challenges, and raise funds for our Coast to Coast project, which included waymarking and the provision of information boards at each end of the walk. Any funds remaining after these were completed were donated to Mountain Rescue Services connected with the Coast to Coast route.

The second aim was to monitor the route for access problems in order to report these to the relevant local authority.

Challengers could complete their section as part of a circular walk, a ‘there and back’ walk, or join with another group in order to have vehicles at each end of the walk. As there were a smaller number of challenges than was usual, up to two members could register separately for each challenge.

The challenges at each end of the route (St Bees and Robin Hood’s Bay) be were Society walks led by Caroline Nichol and members were asked to make a separate, small donation towards the Challenge for participating in these two walks.
