Challenge Books

When the Society was formed in 2002 it was never envisaged that we would become involved in publishing books. How could this be possible with the small number of members there were? However, as the Society grew and we were able to widen our vision of how to interpret some of our main constitutional aims some members embarked on projects where a publishing opportunity was possible. The main aim of our publications was to support our fundraising role. Thus it was that on one of our first Challenges, The Great Lakeland Challenge, a book was produced recording the ‘adventures’ of members who joined in the project.

After a break for a few years to recover, the production of a ‘Challenge Book’ has now become one of our main projects and there are now over ten in the series. The Challenges themselves describe a wide range of subjects all linked to AW’s works and the following cover images show the subjects and cover over 1,000 walks involved all recorded in their own words and pictures by our members.  The front covers of the Challenge books so far are shown below.
