Our Fundraising

The Society’s objectives include:

• To keep alive the fellwalking traditions promoted by Alfred Wainwright through his guidebooks and other publications.
• To keep faith with Wainwright’s vision of introducing a wider audience to fellwalking and caring for the hills.
• To encourage the benefits of association with people sharing those common interests.

What better way could there be to support these objectives than to help to raise funds for bodies whom we believe AW would have been proud to support?

In our early days we simply donated small amounts to deserving causes. This included £1250 to replace the window at Buttermere Church and donations to Animal Rescue Cumbria. By 2008 however we had developed two main fundraising projects; our annual challenge and our annual calendar. This resulted in us being able to choose in advance an annual beneficiary and support a project for our beneficiary which would have significant impact. A list of our fundraising is shown on the page ‘Our Beneficiaries’.
