Fundraising Projects

These are some of the projects that the Society’s fundraising has supported.

  • Helping Animal Rescue Cumbria to buy a much-needed new van
  • Contribution to creating a new access route to Orrest Head to aid those of limited mobility
  • Build a new outdoor classroom for the Blencathra Centre
  • Purchase of the latest ultrasound machines for use by doctors on the GNAAS helicopters
  • Donations to support the Wainwright Exhibition at Keswick Museum
  • Repairing the footpath on Long Stile by Fix the Fells
  • A stone bench as a tribute to AW on the new Ullswater Way
  • Funding a plaque for Patterdale Post Office where AW sold his first Pictorial Guides
  • Refurbishing the Bowderstone Bothy for The Calvert Trust to give disabled access
  • Repairs to the Coast to Coast path at Nine Standards
  • Donation to the Cumbria Flood Appeal (post Storm Desmond)
  • Replacing the body radios for members of the Lakes Search and Rescue Dogs Team
  • Funding a programme of Taster Weekends for disadvantaged children in Cumbria
  • Waymarking for the Coast to Coast Walk and support of Rescue Teams covering the route
  • Supporting the replacement of Juniper plantations for Cumbria Wildlife Trust
  • Replacement of the Viewfinder on Orrest Head
  • Funding to help build the Water Centre at the Lake District Calvert Trust
  • Significant support over 15 years for Mountain Rescue Teams
  • Repairs to Stake Pass through Fix the Fells
  • Support for the Cumbria Flood appeal in 2009 through lecture by Sir Chris Bonington and Doug Scott CBE
  • Numerous donations to Animal Rescue Cumbria, recently through sales of our Encounters With Wainwright book
  • Contributing to the campaign for a third helicopter for GNAAS, such is the demand for their services
