The 2023 Challenge was based on three of Alfred Wainwright’s lesser-known books related to Westmorland, namely: Westmorland Heritage, Three Westmorland Rivers and Kendal in the Nineteenth Century. Living and working in Kendal, AW had a special affection for the former county of Westmorland.

There were 85 varied Challenge walks taking in Kendal, towns, villages, rivers and fells.
