We have been advised by the National Park Authority that the footpath along the River Glenderamackin will be closed for at least 6 months from 17th July 2025 in order to assess riverbank erosion and landslips. A diversion on footpath and partly on rough ground has been instated.
Alfred Wainwright’s Pictorial Guide Northern Fells pages Bannerdale Crags 6, Bowscale Fell 4 and Souther Fell 4 are affected.
The erosion to the path and difficulty of passage was noted by Society Members last year on the Eycott Hill and Souther Fell combined RGS and Wainwright Society Walk led by Mark Abbott in July 2024.
