Ron Scholes

The Society is saddened to learn of the death of Honorary member, Ron Scholes, aged 96.

Ron was an early member of the Society, joining on 17th January 2003, following the formation of the Society the previous November.

Ron was a friend of Wainwright and his wife, Betty, being one of those rare people who was invited to stay over at Wainwright’s home in Kendal Green. He came to know Wainwright in the late 1970s when he offered to donate the proceedings of a talk he was giving to Animal Rescue Cumbria (ARC). It was the first of several donations to ARC during the following years. Wainwright dedicated his final sketchbook, A Peak District Sketchbook, to Ron, who supplied photographs and background information for some of the sketches.

As a Society member, Ron attended Society walks and events and promoted the Society at his own talks. He also gave a talk about his friendship with AW at a Society AGM.
